This Saturday....
This Saturday....
...will be the return of the Wheeling Anime Club!

Some changes, with you guys's approval:

1) Just "Anime Club" -- we never did get that many people who liked anything but manga.
2) Meetings from 2:30 to 4:30 on Saturday. That way I cn be there to start the meeting.
3) No more company-sponsored preview discs. It was way too hard to keep up with them. Since we're a small club, I figure we can get away with our own DVDs and fansubs (I just got a DVD burner!).

Ideas for this week's anime:

Ouron Host Club
Gankustuo: The Count of Monte Cristo
Fushigi Yuugi
Nana or Paradise Kiss

Also, I'll order pizza and pop! I can't bring ice, though, so if someone else could, that would be terrific.

really out of it
I feel really bad. I haven;t done anything in FORVEVER. And I have no idea if this even exists anymore >> I was at the library one random sat and I wondered if anyone was down stairs. (i was too afraid to look)

Future of the club
I can't do the club for a while. Mostly, this is because most of the time I'm not at work (especially on weekends), I have to either help my family move to our new house, or work on making the new house habitable. This will probably take another several weeks.

So sadly, the anime and comics fest isn't happening. I'll go Thursday morning to tell anyone who shows up and to put up signs to let people know.

There's another club in the area -- the Bridgeport Anime Addicts club that meets at Bridgeport Public Library. Let me know if you're interested and I'll send you info.

I don't know if WACC is 100% done for, but it's definitely on hiatus for the rest of July and August. I'll keep everyone posted.

Tomorrow's meeting and the Fest
I hope none of you guys will be too disappointed that our anime fest will be much much smaller than planned. But since hardly anyone has come to the meetings lately (except PJ and Dave), and I've been so busy moving and working and stuff, it looks like it'll have to be scaled back a lot.

So, I'm thinking:
1) Movies and other media. We have the library basement for 10 hours on Thursday. What do you want to watch?
2) Artist's alley. Those of you who draw can show and sell your drawings.
3) Educational stuff. I think I will have enough time to make some posters about the history of comics in the US. If anybody would be interested in making some about anime, we could put them up on the walls for visitors.
4) Games. We could teach people the "Who's better?" game and the "1000 Blank Index cards" game. Other games -- I don't know.

We could to all or just a couple of these. Please comment with any suggestions you might have.

Or we could cancel it altogether. I hope it doesn't come to that, but there's no point in stressing out if we aren't going to get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

This really proves that if we're ever going to do a real mini-con, we'll have to start much much earlier. (When I was planning last year's Comic Party, I was able to work on it full time, because I didn't have a real job. ^_^;)

As for tomorrow's meeting, I can't be there! (Yeah, I was just complaining about nobody coming to meetings, but I know I'm just as bad as everyone else. ^_^;) A really good volunteer opportunity came up, and I couldn't pass it by... But this doesn't mean there won't be a meeting -- you guys are totally welcome to meet without me, and I hope you do!

I'll post more later...

Ok, chicas
Ok, not sure which is the right community (short attention span, anyone?), but I gotta give you all a heads-up, so I'm gonna just x-post this.

I'm not gonna be at anime club tomorrow. Nor, to my knowledge, is Leah or Minerva. Sorry, all. Then, I will not be back until the 15th. Try not to miss me too much, k?
So, hope SOMEONE brings in a movie. I'll try to call Amanda, though I'm not sure if she'll be back by then.

This Saturday! Big meeting!
I'll be late (AGAIN!!!). But just half and hour or so. Allie, I'd really appreciate it if you could set things up a little early -- if you can't, let me know so I can find someone else.

We're having a special guest this week! Rizzo Ohba, a Japanese teacher at Northern, is going to come by to talk with us about Japanese language and culture! She's also bringing one of her students. We may have a couple other visitors who found out about the club from the free comics I gave to the CCG guy at the mall. So it should be a really exciting meeting!

Please tell the non-LJers in the club if you get the chance!

Free Comic Book Day
Is today!!!!!!! From 12-6 at Hobby's Inc. I really hope some of you can make it... If you want to help set up, please come by the comic book store at 11:30pm. You want to help put things away -- 6pm. Otherwise, please call me on my cell (281-8272) so I can know when people are coming. Call if you need directions, too! No need to bring anything, because I THINK I have that covered. I'm trying to make t-shirts for the first few people to show up.

First off, I'm going to be late again because of work -- I should be there by 2:30 though.

Second of all, the lock in starts at 8pm. Anyone who wants to come a little early to help set up would be heartily welcomed!

Here's the movies we're probably going to watch: Bride and Prejudice, FF7: Advent Children, RENT, and Howl's Moving Castle. There's room in the schedule to watch a few more -- bring your favorite DVDs and we'll do a viewer's choice. ^_^ Also bring video games! Right now, we've got Kingdom Hearts 2, Resident Evil 4, Dance Dance Revolution, and Katamari Damacy on the schedule. Josh is bringing KHII, and PJ's bringing his Playstation 2. I've got the extra TV... So everything should be set!

I'm a little concerned because I gave a few of you guys my number, but no one's called... What happened? I may call YOU tonight, if I can just find that purple planner...

I hope to see you tomorrow night! Remember, bring your permission slip if you're under 18! Only Allie has turned one in.

ETA: You can get a slip from the website at http://www.rexandhazel.com/club/permission.html

Website oops, and lock-in, and FCBD
You know that address I gave you guys? Anime-comics.tk? It doesn't work anymore!!! ;_; I'm not sure what happened. But http://www.rexandhazel.com/club/ works just fine, so please use that!

For those of you who weren't at the meeting today, we didn't do much. We talked about anime and movies to watch at the lock-in, and here were some of the suggestions: RENT, Bride and Predjudice, Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin, Malibu's Most Wanted, and Fullmetal Alchemist. If you have suggestions for movies, please post a comment here! Video games are also wanted.

And please bring some food!

The lock-in IS next Saturday, the 29th, and if you are under 18, you need a signed permission slip to get in. You can print out a slip from the member's page of our website, which I linked above.

Free Comic Book Day is May 6, at Hobby's Inc in Bridgeport (by the Big Lots in the shopping plaza). Please come and help! Bring old samplers!

Let's Make Money!
My art teacher is heading a sale-thingy to raise money for art class field trips. If we wanted to, we could sell some stuff to raise money. It'll be on the 25th, from 9-12, at MdeC. However, to get a table, I need to get back to her by tomorrow. If it doesn't work out this time, there will be another similar event in the fall, sometime.

Ok, get back to me ASAP. Thankies. ^_^

(x-posted, cuz I'm not sure which is the proper community to use)

http://groups.myspace.com/waacanime - Myspace Group for us.
Because no one else seemed inclined to do it. I probably did it wrong. Deal with it. If you can do it better, by all means, do so. If not, shut up and deal with it.

x-posted to other waac community

Edited because the HTML didn't work, cuz computers hate me.

Ok, just realized something:
The Sunday that we all plan to go to the mall and sell anime stuff is Super Bowl Sunday! . Which means: (a) I won't be able to come (Anti-Superbowl party, Mom's bday) and (b) few people are likely to be at the mall.
BTW, I x-posted this to the other WAAC community, just in case...
